Marketing is not what you think it is.

Marketing, a lot of people misuse that word, a lot have no idea what it is, let me break it down for you..

First, What is Marketing…Really?

The Charted Institute of Marketing defines marketing as a management process responsible for identifying, anticipating and satisfying customer’s requirements profitably.

 This is a pretty good definition of marketing…but, is that the way you think of marketing?

Basically, most people think of Marketing as merely Advertising or Sales.

That is why when people say “Help me Market this Product”, they are basically saying,

“Help me get this product to sale”

The truth is that real marketing never ever starts with the product or its compositions.

It actually starts with the Customer….his needs…his wants…his aspirations…his fantasies and daydreams.

The whole Marketing Process is just about the customer.

Think of the greatest Marketing stories, be it a product, a service or a cause.

When you study deeply, you will realize that it helps the audience fulfill a need, a fantasy or a craving.

So now, here is my definition of Marketing…

I have different definitions, based on the context of the product or service.

Like for an APP or a Website?

It is the understanding and studying of the needs of an audience so as to create a product that would really get them to buy without much coercion because they see the clear difference that having the product would have in their lives.

For Raw Materials or Goods that have already been Manufactured?

Marketing is the understanding of the pain points of the target market in order to create promotional strategies that would really get to them and speak to both their conscious and subconscious mind on the importance of buying and making use of this product while on the other hand making sure that is it always available wherever and whenever they need it.

There are a lot of products and services which are available, both discovered and undiscovered.

But what I’m trying to get you to see here is that…

To understand how best to go about Marketing of your own product or service, You first have to understand what need, want, fantasy or aspiration that you are fulfilling for the customer take for example how successful Apple is, they made use of marketing well enough.

And

You also have to know WHO that customer is.

No product is for EVERYONE…..

Unless of course, GOD’S oxygen.
